3 Ways to Manage Life Transitions (hint: see them as EXPERIMENTS)
Get confident in how you approach life when it doesn’t go as planned.
A Recent Story From My Life
If you’ve ever felt like you were “waiting for life to get going” - or to start - you’re not alone.
In my recent conversation on the Powerful Ladies Podcast, I shared a moment that perfectly captured this:
I was sitting in a Spectrum lobby, frustrated, waiting to return a router that I didn’t know I needed an appointment for… and it hit me: Life often feels like this… like a waiting room.
The question isn’t “when will my name be called?” — the real question is, what do you want your waiting room to be? What experience do you want?
The truth is that YOU hold the power in any situation. You get to choose how you feel, how you relate to what’s happening, and how you want to take action given the circumstances. This is the way of ownership.
So how do you approach life transitions? Here are three keys.
#1: See Transitions as Invitations
I’ve lived through my share of major transitions — divorces, career changes, death and grief, and motherhood. Each one brought me face-to-face with this reality:
When wisdom speaks, it’s an opportunity to act.
For me, leaving my high-paying corporate job after the sudden death of a friend wasn’t just about a career change. It was about integrity. Could I keep living out of alignment with what I knew to be true? The answer was no.
Instead of making a “forever” decision, I gave myself 12 months. A year to experiment with my business. A year to run the test and see what could be possible.
That experiment turned into the life I now live — one built on simplicity, alignment, and choosing what matters most.
“Transitions don’t have to be permanent decisions — they can be experiments.”
#2: Get Clear on What You REALLY Want
One client came to me convinced she needed to grow her business bigger and faster. What she actually needed was space. Through our work, she realized the bravest move wasn’t hustling harder — it was pausing to ask, What do I really want?
Her “experiment” was simple: for 90 days, she stopped chasing new leads and instead deepened her current client relationships.
The result? More referrals, more joy, and a business that actually felt sustainable.
#3: Remember It’s About INTEGRATION
Psychologist and author Martha Beck defines integrity as “when the inside matches the outside.” It’s not just about keeping promises; it’s about full alignment.
Research shows that when we live in integrity with our values, stress decreases, resilience rises, and decision-making gets clearer.
Transitions, then, aren’t disruptions — they’re invitations back into integrity.
Your Action Prompts
This week, I invite you to ask yourself:
What transition am I in right now?
What experiment could I run for the next 30, 60, or 90 days to explore what I really want?
Where do I need my insides and outsides to match?
This is such an important skill for anyone to practice. I believe in it wholeheartedly, and I see the ways this changes lives (and businesses) every day.
I want to know: What experiment are you willing to try? Reply back and let me know — I’ll write you back personally.
With love,
