Impossible Goals: Two Stories That Might Just Change What You Believe
Woman #1 went to Tahiti for 10 days. Woman #2 got her dream job at 72 - with no application
Let’s be honest—some dreams feel just out of reach. Not because they’re particularly wild or outrageous, but because if we get really honest with ourselves, something inside us whispers, “That’s not for people like me.”
Or it says: “Other people get to do that. Not me.”
Or: “The limits of my life/work won’t let me do that.”
Or: “I can’t afford what I really want.”
Welcome to our Impossible Goals Summer Series, where we’re sharing REAL stories of NORMAL, average people who created incredible RESULTS by slowing down and really looking at their dreams - and what was in the way of them.
These stories aren’t about billionaire influencers or magically lucky people.
These are folks like you and me, who were willing to explore possibilities longer than most people.
Dream #1: Tahiti
One client had a dream that lived quietly in the background for years: Ten days in Tahiti. Rested. Unrushed. Swimming with sea life.
But that dream came with an inner chorus of “not now - maybe not ever,” “too expensive,” “who’d watch the kids?,” “I can’t afford the trip I actually want,” and “maybe someday.”
In coaching, she was willing to slow down and get curious about her inner resistance: What if this dream wasn’t ridiculous? Wait… what would need to be in place to make this even possible?
Together, we unpacked the beliefs that told her she didn’t have enough money, enough time, enough support, or enough worthiness of her dream. Once she was clear on that, we supported her in opening to possibilities.
From that foundation, she crafted a vivid picture of what her perfect trip would look like—down to the smell of the ocean and the feeling of not rushing anywhere. Swimming with sea life, a glass bottom room, and 5-star dining every night.
With that vividness, we ran the practical check:
She looked at her budget, time off, flight schedules, childcare, and the best time of year to go. Her spouse put in the vacation time off “just in case,” her parents said they’d watch the kids, and she landed a client with the exact amount the trip total would cost.
She went and had the trip of a lifetime.
Tahiti wasn’t impossible—it was just buried under assumptions. To this day, she is astounded by how simple her dream was once she was willing to be with her inner resistance, followed by practical action.
Dream #2: A Dream Job at 72
Another client, age 72, told me she felt “too old” to still want things. She was an immigrant as a child, established a whole life in the States, raised two daughters, had several grandchildren, and had survived breast cancer. She was in her industry for over 30 years and found herself in a company where she was emotionally abused and minimized.
She very simply wanted a job with another firm where she felt respected, wanted, and like she was a true contributor. “But who would hire someone at my age? Most people have retired by now,” she wondered.
Additionally, she wanted to spend a month in Europe each year. She loved France, Italy, United Kingdom, and she had family there.
All of this sounded outlandish even to her. But we got to work, questioning the hidden ageism she had internalized and the limits of possibility.
Then we started to stack up her rich and robust career and the impact she made.
She finally felt worthy of the kind of job she wanted - when one day out of the blue she got a call from a former colleague. He offered her an senior level executive job that was created with her specifically in mind because of her impact in their industry and her know-how. There was no one else they wanted.
Never in a million years could she have imagined this happening - yet it did. And she was ready to receive it.
She took the job under one condition: They give her a full month off to travel to Europe once a year. They agreed. Now, she spends the summer abroad.
Oh, and she launched an exclusive networking organization that expanded to multiple chapters across Southern California within a year.
Her life didn’t shrink with age—it got bigger.
Your Turn… What’s Your Impossible Goal?
These stories aren’t just inspiring—they’re invitations.
What if your “pipe dream” is actually just a possibility in disguise?
What if it’s not about hustle or luck—but about slowing down, getting honest, and opening up to what’s possible?
Step One: Clarify the dream.
Step Two: Write out all the “Why Nots” about what’s in the way of the dream.
Step Three: Just experiment. How much would the dream be? What would need to be in place to make it happen?
Step Four: Make a decision. Are you willing to start taking action towards it? Getting support? Saving money? Asking for the opportunity?
See what happens.
